Abstract

Applying to the methodological apparatus of systemic communication theory, the author uses it to explain intercultural interaction. Historical memory, like ethnic identity, is traditionally perceived as a factor in conflicts and violence, but at the same time as a component of the democratic and institutional stability of states and their economic development, social trust and electoral preferences of citizens. Therefore, a comprehensive description of the mechanism and components of communication, built around the national past or ethnic-centric interaction in society, could significantly help reduce its conflict potential, turning the sphere of interethnic communication into a factor of sustainable social development.
