Abstract

The article attempts to conceptualize the current political development of Italy, based on the results of parliamentary elections held in the spring of 2018. The failure of the center-left bloc, whose electoral positions were undermined by the massive 5-star populist forces, reflects the long-term development trends launched with the collapse of the real socialism and the adoption of a model of post-Soviet development, which had the consequences of a significant weakening of the influence of the Western European left.
