Abstract

The article discusses the environmental problems of the Far East and their possible impact on migration processes in the region. Despite the existing nature reserves and natural monuments, as well as the diversity of the animal and plant world, the nature of the Far East is particularly in need of protection and preservation of the ecological balance of the environment. The main causes of environmental problems are: mining activities, deforestation and forest fires, mass pestilence of fish, open coal transshipment, pollution of reservoirs with petroleum products, extraction of placer gold, floods, typhoons and earthquakes, dumping of hazardous industrial waste into the atmosphere. Moreover, one of the main environmental problems is deforestation and waste from the forest industry. The study showed that many environmental problems of the Far East are connected with economic problems. Some mining enterprises dump industrial waste into the rivers of the region, while water bodies have a significant role for the region. At the same time, there is an interest of the authorities in solving environmental problems. Among the priorities of the region are: ensuring sustainable development and environmental safety, forming a network of specially protected natural territories and reserves, and developing ecotourism. In the course of the study, the climate features of the Far Eastern Federal District were also considered. It was revealed that the existing natural and ecological situation in the region, in our opinion, can contribute to the migration of the population. However, the study showed that the existing methods of studying the causes of population migration in the regions of the Russian Federation do not allow us to reveal the full picture of the impact of technogenic and environmental problems on migration processes.
