Abstract

Tajikistan is one of the leading countries in the world in terms of the share of migrant remittances in the structure of gross domestic product. For example, at the beginning of the global crisis in 2008, 49% of Tajikistan’s GDP came from migrant remittances. It is shown that remittances of Tajik migrants play a significant role in the socio-economic development of the country as a whole, as well as of individual households, allowing them to fulfill the basic needs for buying food, durable goods, investments in the construction and repair of housing, and invest in the development of education for children.Unlike other countries,most ofthe remittancesinTajikistan come through the legal banking channel, which also has a positive impact on the economy of the Republic. The legalization of money transfers was facilitated by the abolition of the 30% tax on money transfers, as well as their equating to banking operations. The paper shows the role of remittances of Tajik labor emigrants from the United States.
