Abstract

For over a hundred years, Mongolia has been a strategically important ally of the Russian Federation in the southeast of the country. This material presents an attempt to comprehend the sociocultural development of Russian-Mongolian relations on the example of the cross-border region of the Republic of Buryatia and Mongolia. An analysis of the interaction between the two countries at the regional level on the example of Buryatia showed that the prospects for the development of bilateral relations have great positive potential, as evidenced by the cultural and historical commonality of the Buryats and the Mongols, despite various changes in political courses and the challenges of the time. At the same time, it should be noted that, based on historical commonality, one should take into account the changes that have taken place over the past decades in both countries and it is necessary to stand up for cooperation at the present time without following the negative stereotypes that appeared in the Soviet era.
