Abstract
The section is devoted to the analysis of the role of the historical component in the formation of Russian identity and the analysis of the practices of using historical plots for political purposes. On average in Russia in 2020, knowledge and ideas about various events and personalities of Russian history turned out to be an important consolidator of the Russian nation. The study showed the similarity of most of the ideas of Russians and people of other nationalities, affecting the shared shared history. In general, the majority of the population is ready for an open conversation about the history of not only heroic, but also tragic.
