Abstract

Promoting competitiveness of small and medium-sized business is one of the key goals of the economies of the new EU states. In this relation it is necessary to determine the effect of the processes of knowledge management on the competitiveness of small and midsize enterprises (SMEs). In order to assess the processes of knowledge management, the authors analyze the results of the 2013 staff survey conducted among SMEs in the Latgale region of Latvia. The study proves that all the competiveness indicators of the SMEs of the Latgale region are chiefly effected by the process of the creation of new knowledge by the staff of the organizations, as well as, secondarily, by strategic awareness among staff and more general results of business management in certain organizations.
