Didenko D.V. Long-term dynamics of human capital indicators on the ex-USSR area

Abstract

The paper explores the long-term trends of human capital formation and utilization in Russia and other republics of the former Soviet Union through education development. We discuss application of the principal approaches to human capital measurement and the respective methods of its assessment to our analysis of phenomena and processes of the Soviet and post-Soviet economic history. We present our own estimates of human capital volume in monetary terms (cost- and income-based) and their analysis for the period from 1920s to 2000s.
