Abstract
This article examines the way a host population adapts to an influx of migrants with a different cultural origin. In regard to the local population, the author prefers to state that adaptation to a new ethnic structure of local space is at hand, rather than integration with migrants. Shown are the indicators and spheres of the adaptation process. Results of representative surveys conducted in Russian regions (during 2014-2015) bring us to the conclusion that adaptation proceeds with greater ease in places where the host side has already historically developed experience in interethnic communication. Analyzed are attitudes towards migrants of foreign cultural origin in those republics which have a complex ethnic structure, and where ethnopolitical apprehensions of changes in the ethnic balance are present. It was shown that identical interethnic relations parameters may imply a different level of complexity in achieving them.
