Abstract
The article presents the author's approach to the analysis of social risks in the elderly population of the capital, identified by the author in 2011. The empirical base for the analysis of their relevance currently is the data array of the wave XI (April 2016) by Monitoring the level and quality of life of older residents. On the basis of self-assessments of the respondents analyze the adaptive strategies of the older generation of Muscovites to the problem of declining income and purchasing power, shows the role of the social protection system to minimize one of the most typical risk of poverty and material distress.
