Abstract

I have written before about the tendency for the institution of parenthood to be transformed under conditions of the sociocultural differentiation that has been going on in Russia in the past ten years [1; 2]. The purpose of the present article is to trace the variability of views in this sphere that are held by representatives of different generational and age groups of women and men. The author has proceeded on the hypothesis that under the conditions of today, normatives on the level of perceptions are being eroded. A prerequisite of this process is the diversity of actual practices of parenthood and the articulation thereof, including in the mass media, and the absence of effective mechanisms for the ideological construal of the "correct" model of the family and personal life, on the part of the state and other institutions such as the church, the schools, and so on. It was assumed that rigid norms or stereotypes are held more rarely by women, those who live in a big city rather than a medium-sized city, and young people who have gone through socialization in the post-Soviet era.
