Abstract
The article deals with the history of emergence of the Albanian question as a factor of Balkan and European politics on the eve of the World War I, as well as subsequent influence of its solution at that moment on the system of international relations in the region later, during the 20th century. A clash of national interests of Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Greece, and the nascent Albanian state led to mutual territorial conflicts and built the base for sharp ethnic contradictions in future independently of the type of political and administrative system of one or another country. The role of the Albanian factor in the Balkans in general is demonstrated, both in the beginning of the 20th century and in its end. There also is analyzed the influence of Albanian communities on political development of some post-Yugoslavian states.
