Abstract

The study is devoted to theoretical approaches and views of identifying climate migration, as well as assessing the possible consequences of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic on the type of migration under study. The main methodological problems of identifying migrants who were forced to leave their places of permanent residence due to environmental changes were identified, such problems include the peculiarities of translation of foreign terminology into Russian, the lack of common approaches to the use of the concepts of “migrants”, “refugees” and “displaced persons and iinsufficient knowledge of the studied issues. The main areas of impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on climate migration and climate migrants were identified. It was found that as a result of restrictions on movements, climate migrants were more affected. Based on the study, it was found that at the moment the world community has shown its complete inability and unpreparedness for the global challenges of our time. A parallel was drawn between the COVID-19 pandemic and climate migration as the modern global challenges of humanity.
