Abstract

The article examines the main characteristics and features of modern educational migration to China. It determines the current trends in the main directions of higher education migration, in particular, the change of the classic East-to-West direction to East-to-East and West-to-East directions. It also investigates the characteristics of China’s migration attractiveness in the global educational services market, and certain changes in PRC’s migration policy in this context. The article presents the main quantitative indicators, directions and preferences of educational immigrants to China at the present stage. The geographic centers of attraction for foreign applicants are identified along with the countries of origin of the majority of foreign students studying in China. It highlights the attracting factors, the goals pursued by Russian students in their migration to the People’s Republic of China and their general attitudes along with certain adaptive capabilities of Russian students in the host country. The article also analyzes the degree and effectiveness of interaction and cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China in the field of education. It emphasizes the importance of elaborating a clearly conceived migration policy in both countries that would aim to further high-quality mutual progressive development both in the educational, and in the economic sphere.
