The study methodology is based on the concepts of social time, communicative and cultural social memory, “postmemory” and “counter-memory”, commemoration, temporal stability of social memory, the connection between social memory and the role of national cultural symbols and memory places in its formation, as well as on the idea that social memory can only appear in individual consciousness and is structured in accordance with the existing social agreements. The unique characteristic of the present study is that it deploys a research method based on comparative qualitative analysis of the results of in-depth interviews of the young citizens of the EAEU and CSTO states and the countries being candidates for entering the EAEU. The novelty and originality of the study results lie in the introduction of empirical data on the state of historical memory of the Second World War present in the young generations of the CIS countries into scientific use. The study presents the operationalization of concepts used in it, as well as an original definition of historical memory. The semantic constructs of the past events may or may not coincide both within the young generations in each of the studied countries and across different countries. Therefore, the comparison of their perception of history allowed identifying the major tendencies in the similarities and differences of the social memory of the Second World War. The interconnections of the historical memory of modern generations with the prospects of Eurasian integration are demonstrated. The practical significance of the publication may lie in using data and conclusions presented in it in the practice of integration process management, the formation of coordinated information and educational policy in the EAEU countries, and as an information resource in the preparation of lecture courses on historical sociology, the sociology of politics, the sociology of social processes, and the sociology of culture.
