Abstract

The article presents the results of the analysis of Russians’ perception of the migration situation in Russia and their places of residence, as well as the prevalence of migrant phobia among the host population. The key issues of the article are: the population’s assessment of the migration situation in connection with the state of interethnic relations; study of the factors of the formation of migrant phobia; analysis of socio-demographic and economic characteristics of respondents who have a positive and negative attitude towards migrants; assessment of the population’s attitudes to the reception of various migrant contingents. Particular attention is paid to the transformation of public attitudes in the specific conditions of the pandemic and the economic situation in Russia in 2020. The empirical basis for the analysis was the results of a sociological survey by VCIOM at the end of 2019, as well as the results of sociological surveys by the Institute of Sociology of the FCTAS RAS of various years.
