Abstract

The evolution of the Leo Tolstoy's ideas on history and civic education through history is under the examenation in the article. His socio-philosophical and ideoliogical influnce was huge. And perhaps his interpretation of history and its significance for social knowledge was dominant in the second half of the 19-th century. Tolstoy rejected historical scientism and even History as academic science, paying tribute for collective memory and literary fiction. His principle forget the past is still valid for modern Russian discourse.
