Abstract. Coronavirus updated the problem of choosing the futuredevelopment of mankind. The article analyzes the positions of liberals,statesmen and supporters of socialism. The author concludes that a liberalprogram will be implemented, and the coronavirus has created the conditions for its speedy implementation. The technologies for managing largemasses of people and each individual are so thoroughly worked out thatthey allow solving problems that are contrary to the interests of the majority. The creation of a subspecies of the «service man» — servants for theelite is spelled out in stages. Consumer society has turned a person into a biosocial creature, for whom the ability to meet immediate needs «belowthe bel» has become crucial when choosing a lifestyle. In Russia there isno social base capable of upholding the rights of today, not that of a relatively distant future. Social solidarity remained in the Soviet past, nostalgia about which provides psychological protection from reality, but doesnot serve as a guide for personal strategies.
