However, most studies do not consider the characteristics of the socio-political process in the country, which are vital factors that should be taken into account when determining the best ways to restore peace and social cohesion in countries affected by conflict. The article examines the stages of the development of socio-political life in the Syrian Arab Republic since the time of the Ottoman Empire and highlights the features of the socio-political life and political culture of the Syrian population in order to provide a better understanding of the socio-political process in Syria and how citizens perceive their role in the socio-political system. The study shows that the main characteristics of socio-political life in Syria are the rejection of foreign interference, the instability of political processes, the control of elites over socio-political processes, and the institutionalization of traditional identi- ties. And the predominant type of political culture in the country is the “subject” political culture in which citizens see themselves as a subject, not an object of politics and are not actively involved in the socio-political life of the country.Content (in russ)hide table of contentsshow table of contents
