Methodology. The characteristics of the social portrait of a modern foreign educational migrant in Russian universities are carried out on the basis of critical analysis, generalization, systematization and classification in the formulation of conceptual discourse analysis in its interpretation by such researchers as Van der Vock, E. Nagornazhi, R. Foler and K. Hart. Research results. Consideration of the social portrait of a modern foreign educational migrant in Russian universities from the point of view of his integration into the educational space of an educational institution is associated with such procedural characteristics as adaptation to new conditions, reduction of social distance and the acquisition of environmental identity, which, firstly, is an additional identity along with their national and ethnic identity, secondly, environmental identity is an actual form of reducing social distance and, thirdly, it works as an effective mechanism for integrating a foreign educational migrant not only into the educational environment of the university, but also the city and region, since environmental identity includes elements of social identity as the main characteristics of the social portrait of a foreign educational migrant, such as socio-demographic indicators, elements of socio-cultural identity in the form of awareness of his inclusion in a new sociocultural space, elements of urban and regional identity as an understanding of belonging to the corresponding urban and regional community, elements of university identity and the identity of the acquired profession. Prospects of the study. The results can be used to study the peculiarities of adaptation of a modern foreign educational migrant to life in the host society, as well as to study the mechanisms of integration of a foreign educational migrant not only into the educational environment of a university, but also of a city and region.
