Abstract

The article analyzes the attitude of young people towards family in a broad context, including people of different generations. The results of a study conducted in 2023 using the focus group method in three Russian universities (Moscow Aviation Institute, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, State Academic University for the Humanities) are presented. In addition, an analysis of the data from the quantitative all-Russian study "Cultural Traditions and the Connection between Generations" conducted by the Russian Society of Sociologists in 2022 was carried out, with the participation of the authors of the article. Students noted that they feel differences between themselves and older family members in all the most important aspects of life, which are due to the fact that their formation and development took place in completely different socio-economic and political conditions. But they are proud of their relatives, who, thanks to work and perseverance, have achieved success in life, are passionate about their work, and value their work. Despite the difference in views, the parental family is of great importance to modern students. A positive assessment of the qualities of older family members can be a starting point for preserving cultural and historical memory and the connection between generations.
