Abstract

The article discusses continued employment of older people who have reached the retirement age, with par ticular focus on their communication with colleagues. The empirical data of this article is based on semi structured interviews with seniors living in St. Petersburg and Petrozavodsk. A total of 50 interviews were collected, which made it possible to obtain a fairly complete picture of the motives and strategies for interac tion between older workers and teams they work in. In the study, three main strategies for interaction be tween seniors and their colleagues were identified. Each of them is characterized by unique communication features, the specifics of interactions, as well as various motives for continuing work. The article highlights the importance for older people to stay employed, both in order to keep socially active and to ensure their in tegration into public life. One of the key findings of the study is the identification of the leading role of communication in a working team. Recognition of an older person by colleagues increases his/her motiva tion to continue working. A sense of being important within the team also serves as a powerful incentive to stay employed and avoid retirement. The article highlights that maintaining respectful and constructive rela tionships with colleagues contributes not only to prolonged professional activity but also to improving gen eral psychological state of older workers. Thus, the study demonstrates that a strategic approach to maintain ing employment among seniors requires attention to the aspects of interpersonal interaction, corporate cul ture, and motivating factors within the working team. This opens up opportunities for further research in the field of age-related employment issues and social support practices aimed at older workers.
