Abstract

Introduction. The article notes the close relationship of ethnic cultural space with social space, using the reflec-tion of cultural symbols and images focused on expressing the interests of a particular ethnic group. Currently, the necessity to comprehend different cultures in the dialogue process is becoming urgent, hence, we consider the specif-ics of the representation of ethnic identity in regional cinema using the example of modern Bashkir and Tatar films.Materials and methods. In the course of the study, a content analysis of feature films shot in the republics of Bashkortostan and Tatarstan was carried out in order to identify the features of ethnic self-identification, the problems of preserving and developing the culture, language and values of these peoples.Results and conclusions. The main stages of the development of regional cinema were highlighted, as well as a meaningful analysis of films. The traditions of the classical theater of the Tatars and Bashkirs, which remain to this day, had a special influence on the development of their own regional ethnic film industry. Among the variety of regional films, a distinctive feature of Bashkir and Tatar cinema is not only ethnic, but also a religious one. An analysis of the films of the republics of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan shows the involvement of ethnicity in various practices related to the development of the regional film industry. At the same time, regional cinema can be considered as a kind of indicator that records both the presence and change of identity. To form and preserve ethnical identity regional directors are eager to resort to historical memory, historical codes and religious identity. The republics films analysis shows the involvement of ethnicity in various practices associated with the regional film industry development.Discussion. The regional cinema can be considered as a kind of indicator that records both the presence and changes of ethnic identity. It is the individual creative approach of a regional film producer that contributes to the formation of the ethnic identity by the expression of the interests of a definite ethnic group, cultural symbols, images and concepts preservation
