The methodological basis of the research is the empirical data of a sociological study conducted by the staff of the SRB – FCTAS RAS in 2024. A questionnaire was chosen as the main re-search method, and a survey was conducted among residents of the city of the Rostov region. The analysis of the opinion of residents of the Rostov region about migrants revealed the fact that they feel an increasing threat from newcomers. The reasons for the antipathetic perception of migrants are considered due to a number of objective (aggressive behavior, differences in mentality and lifestyle, culture and perception, poor knowledge of the language) and subjective factors (the formation of stereotypes under the influence of the media). The differences in attitudes towards migrants depending on their country of origin have been studied, and the main trends in the development of interethnic relations in the region have been identified: despite the increased sense of threat, the host society demonstrates a fairly high level of loyalty to migrants and is open to interaction with them in the event of successful integration of those arriving in the region. The results obtained can serve as the basis for developing practical recommendations for improving migration policy, social integration of migrants and strengthening interethnic relations within both the Rostov region and the Russian Federation as a whole.
