Abstract

The present study reveals the problems and features of the current state of agricultural production in the regions of the Russian Federation. The main arguments are presented proving the advisability of including in the methodology of agricultural sector management target quality indicators (increasing the efficiency of the agricultural sector, increasing the volume of agricultural and food production to a level that ensures food security of the region), established in accordance with the initial and projected situation in the sphere of providing the population with food, which made it possible, based on statistical forecasting methods, to build a matrix of key areas in the development of agricultural production while observing national security requirements, to identify significant differences between regions, to justify the optimal ratio for each territory between productivity and profitability, production and consumption of agricultural products. The development of general theoretical provisions for assessing the role of agriculture and the agro-industrial complex in Russian regions with different natural and climatic conditions, adapted to modern conditions of socio-economic and scientific and technical development, as well as scientifically based recommendations on issues of volumes and directions of expansion of agricultural specialization even in regions with unfavorable natural and climatic conditions, determine the scientific significance of the results obtained.
