The article analyzes the attitude of students from two cities in the North Caucasus region towards traditional culture. The evidence base was based on the results of a sociological study. The main focus of the study was to identify the attitude of modern student youth to the coun-try's cultural heritage and the connection between generations. The diversity and variety of Russia, including its multinationality and multi-confessional nature, are important factors that correct the processes of globalization. In this case, from the point of view of managing social processes, information is important not only for the country as a whole, but also for individual regions of the country. The authors, based on the results of the conducted research, come to the conclusion that the historical past, ethnic and religious structure of the population of two subjects of the North Caucasian Federal District: Stavropol and Grozny, have a significant impact on the mentality of the future intelligentsia. In both regions, the process of reconsidering attitudes towards folk culture is taking place with varying intensity under the influence of the demands of everyday life. The identity of Stavropol residents as a resort region is being adjusted under the influence of European vacationer culture. Students from Grozny live within the framework of traditional culture, the basis of which is formed by the continuity of generations. The verbal significance of folk culture for most of them leaves open the question of the criteria for dividing traditions into preferred and undesirable.
