The purpose of the article is, based on the analysis of the results of a sociological study, to identify the role, place of family and work in the value system of residents of the capital, as the leader of the evaluative and value attitude to the social reality of modern Russia. The methodological strategy includes a questionnaire survey and focused interviews of Muscovites conducted in December 2023 and April 2024. (respectively). It was revealed that in the rating of Muscovites' values, the first three places are occupied by: "A strong family, children", "To have an interesting job that allows you to show your abilities and talents" and "To be a rich man so as not to deny yourself anything", it is justified that in the context of our study these values are instrumental orientations Muscovites, as a means of achieving goals at a certain stage of life. They set the hierarchy of individual preferences, the level of claims in the medium or current term. The meanings of the chosen alternatives put into them by informants are revealed. It is proved that the meaning–forming value in the long term, the main life goal/achievement for most of our respondents is to create their own family. The dependence of family creation, marital status, attitudes towards interethnic marriage, and reproductive attitudes on the age of the respondents is shown. The ideas about the basic components of family well–being and social development in the opinion of residents of the capital and the most acceptable form of relationships within the family for respondents were revealed.
