The study included a content analysis of scientific works by Tajik, Russian and foreign scientists. In addition, analytical reports and annual reports of international organizations and the Republic of Tajikistan were analyzed, and the results of observations conducted by the authors were used. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to solve the following tasks: to determine the prerequisites for migration and identify existing trends. The socio-political and economic situation in Afghanistan has a direct impact on stability in the Central Asian region, including Tajikistan. In this context, all Central Asian countries continue to express their strong interest in the stability and prosperity of Afghanistan. The Central Asian countries perceive Afghanistan as a land bridge between their economies and South Asia, in particular Pakistan and India, and the main motivation for cooperation is trade and energy projects that can benefit the entire region. The scientific significance of this study lies in the analysis of migration processes between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the prerequisites and trends of these migrations, as well as their socio-economic consequences. The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that its results will serve as a solid foundation for future analytical and project activities aimed at developing a comprehensive strategy for Tajik-Afghan cooperation, with a special emphasis on the area of population migration. The analysis of the problem revealed undeniable prerequisites for active migration exchange between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. The significant role of commercial migration as a vital element in the daily lives of residents of the border areas of both countries is emphasized. It has been established that border markets are a key source of income for many families and a means of improving their living standards. The study showed that Afghan refugees successfully integrate into Tajik society, however, in the conditions of a limited labor market, they, like many citizens of Tajikistan, face difficulties in finding work and ensuring stable employment. It is worth noting that due to recent events in Afghanistan, the lack of data availability and reliability of information may limit the parameters and scope of future research. A detailed analysis of the migration of the population of Tajikistan and Afghanistan should be conducted, because despite the small flows, they play a vital role for border areas remote from the centers of their countries.
