Abstract

The relevance of the work is related to the continuing socio-economic differentiation of rural and urban areas, which affects the maintenance and development of rural employment. The paper defines the purpose of determining the place of rural employment in modern conditions of socio-economic differentiation of urban and rural areas. The hypothesis is postulated that rural employment of the population is one of the significant factors influencing the standard and quality of life of the population and the preservation of rural space. Based on the analysis of scientific papers and statistical material, the following results were presented: 1) rural employment in Russia is undergoing a worldwide transformation of the rural economy and the expansion of alternative activities to agricultural labour, which corresponds to the third stage of this process; 2) subjective assessments of the rural working-age population fix the labour orientation in order to earn money in larger population centers. Low satisfaction with the place of residence is expressed among rural youth; 3) the regulation of social and labour relations in rural areas should be in the nature of social partnership, building vertical and horizontal ties. Further promising development of this topic may be theoretical studies of the content of internal processes of non-agricultural employment, applied regional studies of alternative employment of the population.
