Abstract

The article concerns the results of a sociological study conducted in the Republic of Tuva to study the socio-economic situation of its population. The changes that have taken place had a strong impact not only on the main spheres of life of the Tuvinian people, but also on the unique Tuva traditional culture, including the native language. The article presents the main data of the sociological research. These data indicate that the respondents are seriously concerned about the current real situation, which leads to a regression of the Tuvan language. The authors describe the key problems, among which there is a decrease in the use of the Tuvan language in the field of public administration. The authors revealed that the measures taken by the Republic’s bodies were insufficient, and the influence of the media was limited. There was great concern among the population about the superficial study of the Tuvan language at school and the low awareness of the population about existing government projects aimed at preserving the language. There are no necessary editions of textbooks and fiction in the Tuvan language. Based on the research, the authors concluded that without the active support from the government and from all educational and cultural institutions, the revival and preservation of the Tuvan language was impossible.
