Abstract

This study examines the importance of classes for working and non-working older people, as well as their impact on quality of life and social well-being. The study is based on semi-structured interviews with respondents from various regions, including St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Tyumen, Salekhard and the Republic of Karelia, which allows us to identify regional peculiarities in the perception of classes. The main purpose of the study is to identify differences in the approaches of older men and women to the choice of activities and their role in everyday life. Methods of quantitative analysis of the encoded narrative of interviews with informants are used, which was performed using the QDA Miner program for qualitative text analysis. Special attention is paid to two key groups: those who continue to work and those who have retired, in order to understand how these circumstances affect their preferences and behavior. The results demonstrate the absence of significant differences between older men and women in activity practices, however, age plays an important role in the formation of preferences, manifests itself in changes in the types of activities and their intensity, due to physical and social changes accompanying the aging process.
