The research methodology is based on the principle of the integrity and consistency of public policy in this area. The results of the study, presented in the process of identifying and analyzing the consistency, conditionality and effectiveness of such a policy, record the presence of historical "unconsciousness" among some young people, hindering the sustainable development of society. The study uses a comprehensive approach to studying the state impact on the process of formation and change of the "historical memory" of youth. The discussion of the problem shows that the formation of an effective state policy in the field of dissemination of reliable and scientifically based historical knowledge in society contributes not only to the sustainable development of society, but also to ensuring the rights and freedoms of all its members. The nature and orientation of this policy, to a certain extent, can be revealed in the course of a comparative analysis of the relevant sections of school history textbooks published in the last half century. The authors note the fundamentally important issue of the compliance of "modern textbooks" with the interests of Russian society and the state. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the collective historical memory of various generations, which is a condition for the stability of modern Russian society, cannot be preserved in the minds of young people without special efforts by society and the state, which should be focused on forming a historical consciousness based on the inseparable history of Russia and on bringing this historical event as close as possible to the personality of a young person.
