The methodological basis of the research is a multi-paradigm concept of a personality’s life orientation system in a changing environment. The key to this concept is the category of choice. The analysis is based on the materials of a survey of the population of the Russian Federation based on a representative nationwide sample using the method of individual interviews using a questionnaire. The sample size was 2 000 respondents. In accordance with the purpose, the methodology for analyzing and interpreting empirical data was based on the target groups formation based on the criterion of orientation upon or risk avoidance, taking into account the lack of a clear position. The results make it possible to assess the degree of severity, stability, orientation of risk attitude, as well as to describe the relationship between the creating and transformation of attitudes towards risk in a risky context and socio-demographic factors, ideological positions, resource potential.
