Abstract

The present review article is prepared for a special issue devoted to issues of state demographic and family policy. Its purpose is to summarize the content and key findings of the research articles in this thematic issue and to analyze major trends in demographic development and family support. The review covers a range of aspects of demographic and family policy: the influence of spiritual and moral values on reproductive behavior; spatial factors (urbanization and agglomeration processes) and their relationship with birth rates; the role of a culture of men’s health consciousness in reducing excess mortality and increasing life expectancy; regional practices to stimulate birth rates (using the example of the Republic of Tatarstan); factors shaping the procreative attitudes of youth under the conditions of the demographic transition; public attitudes toward gender equality (a foreign case study); as well as innovative approaches to managing demographic processes using artificial intelligence methods. The review reveals common tendencies and the need for a comprehensive approach, combining socio-economic measures to support families with the promotion of family values and the application of modern technologies to effectively address demographic problems. Special attention is paid to the comprehensive support of various categories of families – student families, young families, multi-child and multi-generational families, as well as prosperous (stable) families – as an important direction of state policy. Based on the analysis of colleagues’ studies and the author’s position, the article proposes a set of recommendations for further development of demographic and family policy aimed at strengthening the family institution, increasing birth rates, and improving the quality of life of families in Russia.
