The possibility of classifying 197 countries according to 60 socio-economic indicators through cluster analysis was investigated. Based on the divisional strategy, 9 clusters were allocated using the method of normalized Euclidean distances. The multicriteria approach, based on 60 statistical indicators, made it possible to differentiate countries by the level of economic development, demographic well-being, population growth rates, government intervention in the economy, investment, sectoral structure of the economy, inflation, social benefits, services, food, mobile communications, and the Internet. The types of countries identified were below average, mostly burdened by rapid population growth and widespread poverty; successful developing and middle-developed countries, including such giants as China and India; compact in size of super-rich oil producing states, exceeding all other clusters in terms of GDP per capita; promising medium-developed states, to which cluster analysis referred Russia and the United States; Countries with a good set of indicators, mainly in Western and Central Europe. The typology obtained could be used in national studies, economic geography, expert developments in the world economy and teaching relevant disciplines.
