The object was the population of the Southern Federal District as a whole, as well as the population of the three national republics within it– Adygea, Kalmykia, and Crimea. The subject of the study was the features of the demographic dynamics in the period between the two last All-Russian population censuses, taking into account the ethno-national aspect. The author used a comprehensive scientific approach. The scientific novelty lies in identifying the features of demographic processes in this southern province of Russia. It has been shown that despite a significant increase in the total population in the district, the main demographic problem remains the natural reproduction of the population, which has deteriorated. At the same time, the least losses in the process of depopulation were observed in the republic with a predominance of the indigenous ethnic group, Kalmykia. It is advisable to use the research materials by the constituent entities of the Southern Federal District for the development of demographic policy.
