Abstract

The article notes that bibliophiles' discussions about the proper approach to understanding the essence of bibliophilia as a type of collecting activity are dominated by the opposition between the "scientific approach" and the "activity-based" approach. The author argues that this opposition is not entirely accurate and vulnerable to criticism, since scientific methodology does not exclude a person's activity-based relationship to the world, but rather is predicated on it. Therefore, it would be more accurate to use the terminological opposition between the "scientific approach" and the "philosophical-anthropological approach."
