Abstract

Objective of the study: to analyze the opinion of residents of the Rostov region about the migration situation and identify the main factors influencing the formation of the estimates obtained. The methodological basis of the study is represented by empirical data from a sociological study conducted by the law faculty of the South-Russian branch of the Federal Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences from 2024–2025. The main research method is a questionnaire, a survey was conducted among residents of the Rostov region. During the analysis, it was possible to state the state of stable migration anxiety inherent in the regional community due to the growing number of newcomers. The dominant image of a migrant in the public consciousness has been identified, formed under the influence of the media and personal experience, and assessments of the impact on the living conditions in the settlement of informants have been studied, grouped according to their functional impact on positive and neutral and negative. The fact of background social tension caused by migration flows and the fears accompanying it has been established. It is concluded that additional work is needed in the field of migration policy, including combating negative stereotypes, as well as support measures aimed at the adaptation and integration of newcomers to the region.
