The change in ethnodemographic dynamics was caused by domestic and foreign policy events, as well as the peculiarities of the socio-economic development of the country and its largest cities. Changes in demographic behavior in Moscow and Leningrad occurred faster than in the USSR and the RSFSR as a whole. Nevertheless, individual peoples, due to their preserved traditions, were at different stages of demographic transition.
