These films show examples of convincing positive protagonists (such as Ascetic, Teacher, Mentor) and offer humanistic solutions to stories about family, school, and career issues. The main feature of the pre-perestroika films is that their authors achieve a prominent level of realism in reflecting Soviet reality while maintaining a life-affirming aesthetic. The global economic and socio-cultural processes of perestroika in the second half of the 1980s will form the opposite, nihilistic vector in Russian cinema for many decades. Nevertheless, the conflicts of the pre-perestroika years have not lost their relevance these days, when family and educational issues have reached a new level of understanding.
