In the late Soviet period, shifting ideological values coincided with growing consumer attitudes. The rise of consumer society and new information technologies introduced new forms of external influence and threats. External influence is exerted on the value system, where the advantages and disadvantages of the state are perceived in the mass consciousness through the availability of material goods and opportunities for their consumption. This expanded the scope of application of the concept of "national security", which was reflected in strategic documents. The importance of socio-economic conditions and consumer standards in assessing security threats has increased. The socio-historical cycle over the past 40 years shows the relationship between ideas about national security and satisfaction with living conditions of the population, the level of axiological trust, and the readiness to perceive official narratives regarding secu-rity threats. The influence of the prevailing attitudes of mass consciousness on the strategic principles and approaches recorded in official documents is shown. Based on sociological and statistical data, the evolution of Russia's security provisions is examined in relation to changing public sentiment and consumer society development.
