The article’s empirical basis is based on data obtained by researchers at the Southern Russian Branch of the Federal Research Center of Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences during the applied sociological study “Axiological Attitudes of Russian Youth: Meanings, Behavioral Practices, and Potential for Consolidation of Multicultural Russian Society” using focus groups. The study found that the specifics of goal-setting among working youth in the Rostov Region and new regions in the context of uncertainty include the following: First, the list of goals in their life plans includes material goods, family, career, and education. Second, the main factors influencing the choice of what is important in life are family, friends, the media, the internet, and the lifestyle of a significant other. Third, uncertainty manifests itself in the increased awareness of risks such as security threats and economic instability, which, on the one hand, complicates long-term planning for working youth and, on the other, forces them to seek new ways to achieve their goals in the current environment. The study’s results can be used in studying the consolidation of Russian citizens, as well as in a comparative analysis of the perceptions of working youth in these regions of the Russian Federation, with representatives of working youth in other regions or other age cohorts, both among young people and among the country’s overall population.
