Abstract

The article examines the interaction between the women’s movement (prac tice) and feminist theory (science). The main focus is on the nature and models of the relation ship between these two institutions, and especially on the role of science in this tandem. The author attempted to understand what is happening: does science produce meanings and ideas that are then taken up by the women’s movement and fought for in order to bring them to life? Or, conversely, is science engaged in comprehending, interpreting, and scientizing what is happening in the women’s movement? The search for answers to these questions was the pur pose of the article. The analysis identified various types of relationships between science and the women’s movement, and showed how they changed depending on the historical context.
