Based on the data of the V monitoring wave "Russian Students about the Great Patriotic War" (2005-2010-2015-2020-2025), key elements of the historical and cultural heritage, including monuments of monumental art, memorial burials, museum exhibitions, scientific papers and films, are being studied. Special attention is paid to the study of the perception and activity of the younger generation in maintaining the memory of the heroic past. The trends of public consciousness recorded during surveys and monitoring are analyzed. Statistical data on the importance of memory preservation among the population are presented, emphasizing the key role of the state and civil society in this process. The role of universities and educational institutions in the educational work and patriotic education of young people is considered separately. In addition, the article touches on the problem of acts of vandalism and violations of the norms of behavior near memorials and monuments, citing specific cases of offenses and suggesting measures to prevent such phenomena. The study highlights the importance of fostering civic responsibility and an informed approach to national history among young people, ensuring the integrity of historical knowledge and respect for the country's past.
