Abstract

The young working-age population represents a demographically important population group whose health and life expectancy directly affect the socio-economic development of the country. The mortality of men and women in this age group, especially from noncommunicable diseases, represents not only a medical but also a social problem, as it leads to a loss of labor potential, a decrease in economic activity, and an increase in the burden on the healthcare system. The purpose was to assess the mortality rate from noncommunicable diseases of the young working-age population aged 20-44 in Moscow in the period 2000-2023 as a reserve for increasing life expectancy. Results. Cardiovascular, respiratory, and digestive diseases are largely preventable by means of timely prevention, early diagnosis, and effective treatment. It is the prevention of irreparable losses that serves as an essential reserve for increasing life expectancy. Unlike external causes of death, which are often accidental and require an interagency approach to prevent them, noncommunicable diseases are directly linked to healthcare system opportunities and can be effectivelycontrolled by means of improved medical care, implementation of preventive programs, and public awareness towards healthy lifestyles. Conclusion. Mortality rates of the population aged 20-44 years allows to assess the effectiveness of measures suggested in the new national projects and identify key areas for furtherimprovement of the healthcare system, as well as contribute to achieving strategic goals in the fields of demography, healthcare, and socio-economic development of the country.
