Abstract

The consolidation of young people arriving in Russia from the Commonwealth of Independent States is a natural stage in the formation of productive interaction between cultures. Network communications play a key role in this process, significantly influencing the formation of views, value systems and the assimilation of socially accepted rules of behaviour by new residents of the country. This context determines the increased scientific significance of studying the behavioural patterns of young migrants in network communications. Social media platforms serve not only as a tool for maintaining ties within diaspora groups, but also as an important means of establishing contacts with representatives of the host society. At the same time, the divergence in values between some online migrant communities and the norms of the host society can become a source of conflict both in relations with the indigenous population and within the migrant group itself. The aim of this study is to identify the motivational values that determine the dynamics of consolidation or, conversely, cause conflict among young people from the CIS in the Russian-speaking digital space of the social network VKontakte. The following aspects have been identified as potential sources of conflict: power (reflected in politicised rhetoric, intentions and assertions of the superiority of certain ethnic groups); achievements (constant appeals by representatives of Russian society to honour Russia's historical victories, which are contrasted with migrants' assertions about the significance of the national successes of their countries of origin).
