Abstract

The article analyzes the published materials from the VII All-Russian Sociological Congress to identify priority research areas in sociology within the context of the stated topic. Particular attention is paid to the assessment of the vector of theoretical comprehension of the value content of the categories of public, social, historical, cultural, collective memory, real ways, directions and practices of their intergenerational transmission and transformation in modern Russian society. The novelty of the study is based on the realized possibility of a comprehensive, multifaceted assessment of memory as a social phenomenon in modern socioeconomic and political realities, based on the analysis of the results of sociological research in the field of education, professional continuity, youth policy, family relations, the realities of the special military operation, the historical significance of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, etc., united by a single target. The study's information base comprises 532 articles by over 700 authors included in the collection “Sociology and Society: Formation and Functioning of Public Memory” (Sociology and Society… 2025). It also includes the results of research by leading public opinion research centres, as well as the work of domestic and foreign sociologists and philosophers. Using qualitative and quantitative content analysis methods, this study compiles a rating of the most relevant topics in memory research within the framework of modern sociological science. It also systematises the main directions, approaches and methods of studying public memory, assesses the theoretical basis of the research and notes the pain points of existing theoretical and methodological approaches. The analysis made it possible to systematize the factors of influence on the state and content of public memory as an indicator of the degree of consolidation of society.
