Based on an analysis of statistical (migration statistics) and socio-anthropological data (in-depth interviews), the true scale and forms of migration are revealed, as well as the current features of the socio-economic adaptation of Cubans in Russian society. The factors attracting Cuban migrants to the Russian Federation have been identified, including historical reasons, proximity to Europe, and the practice of so-called “transit migration”. The migration strategies of Cubans in Russia are highlighted. It has been established that, often despite their undocumented status, Cubans represent a socio-economically adaptive group of migrants in the host country. Cuban immigrants use both formal and informal practices to adapt to their new country of residence. The decision to enter or leave the legal field of migration relations is made by migrants after assessing the feasibility, economic benefits, and possible consequences. During the adaptation process, Cuban migrants test and analyze various practices for solving life and legal problems, accumulating relevant migration experience. Stories of the most successful experiences are shared through social media among other citizens.
