Abstract

The purpose of the work: analysis of the problems of the development of education in the territories of small towns (the state of the sphere, opportunities and barriers to the necessary transformations), their interpretation, search for methods, tools and directions for solving urgent issues in the interests of preserving the population of small towns, and in general – for strengthening the spatial development of the country. Research methods: analysis of documents, comparative method, synergetic approach, secondary analysis of research, analysis and comparison of rating scores, statistical data. Results of the study: the author reveals the systemic problem of Russian small towns and villages, due to the low level of their economic development, stagnation due to the lack of qualified personnel, limited access to modern infrastructure and services, the impossibility of continuing education, as well as insufficient support from the state. Directly related to this is the outflow of young people to large cities, which is becoming more and more significant and threatens the further development of small towns and their disappearance. These problems require an integrated approach, including the creation of favorable conditions for the modernization of infrastructure, the construction of an educational space with a system of continuing education and all links of this system (kindergarten – primary school – basic school – university – enterprise). In addition, it is necessary to take into account the specifics of each region and develop individual development programs based on the local needs of the enterprise and the possibilities of the continuing education structure. The solution of these problems is the main factor in ensuring a way out of stagnation and the development of small towns and Russia as a whole. Scientific novelty: The results of the study give reason to conclude that it is necessary to revise the model of education in small towns and its transformation, taking into account the specifics of the region and in-demand professions, so that young people can continue their education after school in their hometown. Such a step is necessary to reduce migration towards megacities, to reduce depopulation rates in small towns.
