Abstract

During periods of global transformations, ideological searches for a «life anchor» in all social groups are natural. The dynamism of the «risk society» requires research on these processes as an information source necessary to adjust the economic, political and social policies of the state. The article presents the results of the fifth stage of the monitoring study «Historical memory of youth about the Great Patriotic War». The ambivalence of historical memory in times of crisis manifests itself in a variety of forms, including civic self–identification on the scale of «patriot – not patriot.» In the process of restructuring the USSR/In Russia, the sources of information about its history, including the Great Patriotic War, knowledge about it, behavioral practices and design intentions were changing, which was reflected in the self-assessments of the degree of patriotism of young people. The authors identify the main factors that led to the return of Victory in the Patriotic War as a symbol for uniting Russian peoples based on the events of the past in the context of the polarization of society on economic and value grounds in the present. The empirical basis of the study was the responses of Nizhny Novgorod university students who filled out online questionnaires in 2025.
